2010 MMUN Teacher Workshop

Your Chance to Introduce Peace Education and Global Citizenship Into Your Classroom and School

AMS recognizes MMUN Teacher Workshop as Professional Development
 
Registration is now open for the 2010-2011 Montessori Model United Nations New Teacher Workshop for Montessori Upper Elementary and Middle School Teachers. There are reasons MMUN is the only Model UN program for Montessori Students age 9-15, and we hope you will join us.

Held in NY with a curriculum that includes meeting UN Staff and Ambassadors and touring the UN, the teacher workshops are:

  • JUNE 25th AND 26th 2010 TEACHER WORKSHOP - REGISTRATION CLOSED
    (Early Bird Registration is $295 until Jun 10th - Late Registration $325)
  • OCT 15th AND 16th 2010 TEACHER WORKSHOP - REGISTRATION FULL
    (Early Bird Registration is $295 until Sep 30th - Late Registration $325)

Dates and Times

Both workshops begin at 9am on Friday and will end at 5pm on Saturday. Participants should make plans to attend the Workshop in its entirety.

Who Should Attend?

All teachers new to Montessori Model UN and want to participate in the 2010-2011 MMUN event at the United Nations, which will be held in the historic General Assembly.


Why Attend?

This energizing Workshop will provide teachers new to MMUN with a variety of strategies necessary for a successful preparation of their MMUN student delegates. The Workshop will also allow participants to begin building the foundation for successful global education studies. Interactive experiences ref lective of best practices will aid in the development of skills in the following areas:

  • Understanding the History of Dr. Montessori and the United Nations
  • Understanding the work of the United Nations and Its Committees
  • Becoming a Successful Delegate
  • Writing Position Papers
  • Preparing Speeches
  • Learning how to negotiate and caucus
  • Developing the Code of Conduct as Ambassadors
  • Understanding the Rules of Procedure
  • Writing Draft Resolutions


You will receive:

  • The Montessori Model United Nations Handbook with links to the Montessori curriculum.
  • Learn resources for global education activities in the classroom.
  • Meeting with Ambassadors and other UN leaders.
  • Tour the United Nations
  • Montessori Model UN First Level Training Certificate

10:30 am- Leave for the United Nations
11:30-1pm- Lunch at the United Nations
1pm-3pm Tour the UN
3pm Leave the United Nations
4pm-6pm-Session I

Saturday

9am-12 am Session II
12-1pm Lunch
1:00-5:00 Session III


Workshop Location

The New Teacher’s Workshop will take place at the United Nations and the Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge located at 333 Adams Street, NYC.
